Our Approach

The Cheshire School of Bell Ringing is an entry point for new bell ringers and a place for established ringers to develop their skills.

It is designed for ringers of all ages. Our youngest ringers are 11 and we teach people all the way through to those in their seventies.

The School is modelled on the highly successful Birmingham School of Bell Ringing with our teachers using the teaching techniques developed by the Association of Ringing Teachers (ART). We have also drawn on our own recent experience of developing a new band at speed.

At present the school is centred on two Altrincham towers: St Margaret’s on Dunham Road and St Mary’s in Bowdon. It is here, each Saturday morning at 10.30, that our workshops take place. Students will follow the ART Learning the Ropes Scheme, with each tower focused on learners at different stages.

Once ringers are confident at handling a bell and ringing with others, we will match them to an appropriate tower. There they can support Sunday service ringing and attend practices while continuing to come along to the School on Saturday mornings.

This systematic and focused approach allows ringers to progress much faster and to reach their true potential in rapid time.
